THE ART OF CREATIVE WRITING. MEETING AT KILDARE TOWN EDUCATE TOGETHER

From September 23rd to 27th, the Erasmus+ project "The Art of Creative Writing" had its mobility in Kildare, Ireland.

San Clemente´s team, formed by Carmen Cuenca and Joaquina Guillén, arrived in Kildare on 21st September, at night. And we saw it was a wonderful and magic place. During the following day we met the other Spanish team and we were sightseeing in the city of Kildare.

DAY 1 - 23rd SEPTEMBER

Our agenda for the day was:

  • Meet at Firecastle @ 9:00 am
  • 9:15 - 9:45 am: Meet with Siobhán Kavanagh: Q+A about Schools in Ireland and How Education Centres Support them (specifically with art and literacy)
  • 10 am: Kildare Education Centre: Meet Josephine Hardiman “The Book of Kildare” - Artist and Calligrapher
  •  Lunch
  • 11:00 am - Coffee and a break
  • 12:00 pm - Meeting re plan for the week
During this day we got familiar with the Education Support Centre for teachers, something that we used to have in Castilla-La Mancha and we lost some years ago. It is a helpful place where teachers can join projects, can attend courses and can collaborate with other teachers. Siobhán Kavanagh was very didactic explaining the labour of the teacher centres.

After that, the Irish team introduced us to Josephine Hardiman, an ex-teacher and an artist who combines drawing and writing in a very nice caligraphy. Her book "The book of Kildare" has all the spirit of our project, writing and art to catch the rich Irish myths, legends and history.

After this encounter, we visited the Kildare Town Educate Together, our host school, a very innovative and active school in Kildare, where we participated in a robotic lesson, applying STEAM methodology.

After lunch, Irish food is healthy and with a large variety, we went to walk through St Brigid´s Trail.

DAY 2 - 24th SEPTEMBER

  • Agenda of the day:
  • Meet at Firecastle KTET @ 9:00 am
  • 9:30 - 10:30 am: JI - 1st Class visits.
  • 11:00 am: VR experience in Kildare Heritage Centre
  • 11:00 VR Experience and Heritage trail (moved to Tuesday, 11-11:30 and 1130-12)
  • 2:30-13:00 lunch
  • 13:00-14:10 2nd - 6th Class visits

When we visited the Kildare Town Educate Together School, they showed us some of the initiatives they use in their diversity learning, how they motivate students or how they treat students with different difficulties to learn.

After some hours in the school, we went to make a funny treasure hunt in Kildare city. Our team won and found all the answers! We finished with a VR experience, to join new technologies to promote tourism and to show off Irish wonderful heritage is a great idea.

During the evening, we visited the Irish National Stud, Kildare is famous for its horses and we learnt a lot about them. Google lens helped us in our visit to the Japanese Gardens.

DAY 3 - 25th SEPTEMBER

Our agenda for the day was:

  • Meet at KTET @ 10:00 am
  • 11:00 am - 13:00 pm: TAP+ Residency in school
  • Olga Anacka - Multimodal Visual Artist, meeting 6th class, icebreakers, planning and prep for the year
  • 13:00 Lunch
  • GALA DINNER

On Wednesday, we could experience one of the initiatives prepared by the Teachers' Support Centre. It was the TAP, that is a continuous professional development, in which teachers work with artists in partnership and later, during the course, those artists visit the school and they can experience what they have learnt in summer with students. The artist Olga Anacka began that experience in KTET. We couldn't take many pictures, because the students were working and we didn´t want to make pictures of them.

Our dinner that night was an optimus way to socialize, meet our partners in a more informal environment and get to know each other.

DAY 4 - 26th SEPTEMBER

Our agenda for the day was:

  • Meet at KTET @ 10:00 am
  • 11:30 am: RiverBank theater: “What’s the Occasion” by Kym Tracey (art gallery)
  • Meet with members of the team to discuss how the Riverbank collaborates with schools to promote the arts.
  • 13:00: Lunch

There is no better way to know Art than in a Museum, but a very active place with lots of activities. The artist Kim Tracey showed and explained her paintings, so we were able to put a context and to understand the spirit of the exhibition.

Our project is about how art inspires writing and downstairs we visited a wonderful interactive exhibition with poems and art pieces.

During the evening, under the rain, we returned to St Brigid's cathedral to hug the hole on the wall and make a wish!

DAY 5 - 25th SEPTEMBER

  • Agenda of the day:
